About Devon Rex

The Devon Rex is a breed of domestic cat with a slender body, large eyes and ears, and a distinctive, soft, curly coat. Originating in Devon, England, in the late 1950s, these cats are known for their playful and intelligent nature. Unlike most cats, Devon Rex cats have only down hairs, also known as the undercoat. This gives them a unique, almost suede-like feel. They are active, people-oriented cats often described as having a 'monkey in a cat suit' due to their mischievous behavior. They are relatively hypoallergenic, making them a popular choice for allergy sufferers, though no cat is truly 100% hypoallergenic. Their playful nature and relatively small size also make them adaptable to apartment living.

Size Overview

The Devon Rex is a relatively small cat breed known for its distinctive curly coat. A typical Devon Rex is about the size of a small house cat, measuring approximately 400mm (40cm) in width, 230mm (23cm) in height, and 400mm (40cm) in length. Its width is roughly about the size of a large shoebox, and its height is somewhat shorter than a standard notebook. While size can vary slightly, Devon Rex cats typically fit comfortably in a small carrier or even within the crook of your arm, making them manageable and endearing companions. They are much smaller than many dog breeds, easily fitting in a space a small dog, like a Pomeranian, would occupy. Their compact size contributes to their agile movements and playful personality.
