The Science of Strawberries
Strawberries are unique because their seeds are on the outside! Most fruits, like apples or peaches, have their seeds hidden inside. These tiny "seeds" on a strawberry are actually individual fruits called achenes, and each achene contains one real seed. This makes the strawberry technically not a berry in a botanical sense, but a "false fruit" or "accessory fruit."
Why do you think a strawberry has its seeds on the outside, while most other fruits have them inside?

Size Science Lab
Read the size clue
A strawberry is typically about 40 millimeters (4 centimeters) wide. That's like the length of two small paper clips placed end-to-end! It's also about 25 millimeters (2.5 centimeters) tall and 25 millimeters deep, which is similar to the size of a large coin, like a 50-cent piece or a two-euro coin. Imagine a strawberry fitting comfortably on your thumb. This makes it a small, bite-sized fruit, easy to hold and eat.

Estimate
