About Gibbon

Gibbons are small, arboreal apes belonging to the family Hylobatidae. Found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia, they are known for their remarkable agility and characteristic long arms, which they use for brachiation – swinging from branch to branch. Gibbons are highly social animals, living in monogamous pairs and defending their territories with distinctive vocalizations, known as 'songs'. They primarily feed on fruits, leaves, and insects. Due to habitat loss and poaching, many gibbon species are unfortunately classified as endangered or threatened.

Size Overview

Gibbons are relatively small primates, generally reaching manageable sizes. A typical Gibbon measures approximately 550mm in width, 500mm in height, and 550mm in length. That's about 55.0cm wide and 50.0cm tall. To visualize this, a Gibbon is roughly as tall as a medium-sized houseplant and would take up the same amount of room as a desktop computer tower. Therefore, when people ask about gibbon size relative to known items, a good answer is that a gibbon is about the size of a backpack or carry-on luggage and can easily be imagined as fitting inside a large laundry basket.
